Apologies for the extended delay in service, due to leaves on the line; I wrote this piece some time ago but have only just had the chance to post it. To my small but loyal band of readers, thank you for your continued support. MM
At the risk of glossing over my period of sick leave, one month went past, I got the medical all-clear, and most importantly, I felt like I want to go back to work. As you would expect from someone as inexperienced as LM, she made various sympathetic noises, before telling me the big news – she is leaving.

Whilst you might be expecting me to start jumping up and down with joy, whooping and hollering and generally rejoicing, I can honestly say that this was not my reaction (and not just because it would be inappropriate in front of LM’s face).
You see, she is moving onto a better job, or at least one that might be more suitable for her skillset. For that, I am happy, because for all that LM can be pig-headed and stubborn, it is a sign that some things have sunken in. Her new job will enable her to use the IT skills that were under-utilised in her current role, but will not involve too many social skills (and thankfully, will not involve being anyone’s line manager). We are all pleased to see that LM has learnt from aspects of the last year and a bit, and I can honestly say that she leaves with my best wishes.
As for me, well I am just glad to be back – being off sick with stress is not good for the soul, and you get very restless, as you feel that you should be doing something. I will now be directly line-managed by TNB, who is the next up the ladder – due to ongoing restructuring, LM will not be directly replaced for the foreseeable, and even when she is, the replacement is unlikely to be my new line manager. I still feel a good degree of uncertainty about this, but in the meantime, I just have to get on with life – it is now time for the Moaning Minion to get a bit more selfish, I think.
So glad to hear that you are feeling better. LM leaving is good news, although I feel she ‘honed’ her skills at cost to your well-being. You give good advice to others – it is time for you to follow your own good advice and get selfish.
